Sharpen Your Editing Skills
As a trainer at MetroEast, one of the most common questions I am asked is, "how can I become a better editor?" I usually give the same three-step answer to people: practice, practice, PRACTICE! There's no doubt about it; Final Cut Pro is an incredibly complex piece of software with an impressive learning curve. I have seen it reduce grown men to tears! Or maybe that was me. Regardless, the non-linear editing process is an incredibly rewarding experience for those willing to stick with it. Time and time again, I see producers do highly-creative, unusual, and brilliant things with video that I would have never thought possible.
I love to see editors sharpen their skills over time, which is why I've created a new series of training tutorials on the desktop of each editing computer at MetroEast. There are actually two paths to take; the first is a sequence of videos expanding on skills taught in the Basic Editing class. These short clips are a way to quickly review common problems and receive information on-demand. The second path is a fully interactive collection of training tips, tricks and tidbits within a Final Cut Pro project file. Producers are guided through editing fundamentals while simultaneously adjusting to the interface and hotkeys.
I hope you find these new resources helpful. As a blog bonus, I've also included the video playlist below, so that you can watch from home if you so choose. Don't forget to click the HD button for the best quality. Enjoy!
